William C. Etzkorn

William C. Etzkorn entered eternal life on October 25, 2021. He was 87 years old. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Nancy (nee Latall); He is further survived by five devoted children, Timothy (Diane) Etzkorn, Tracy (Michael) Olivas, Mary Sharon (Jim) deGuzman, Patricia (Dan) Stasny and Michael Etzkorn. He is adored by his fourteen grandchildren: Grace, Michael, Lauren and Sean Etzkorn; Austin and Katie Olivas; Nicole, Mara, Luke, William and Olivia deGuzman; Kyle, Jacqueline and Natalie Stasny. He is also survived by his brother, Girard (Linda) Etzkorn, Mary (Bill) Suntrup, Ann Ivester. He was proceeded in death by his brother Lawrence, sister-in-law, Rose Etzkorn and brother-in-law, Wayne Ivester. Bill was born in 1934 in St. Louis, Missouri to George and Florence (nee Corcoran) Etzkorn. He attended St. Peter’s Catholic grade school, Bishop Coyle High School and graduated from Quincy College in 1956. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany from 1956 to 1958. He married the love of his life, Nancy Latall in 1961, briefly lived in Birmingham, Alabama and then settled in Lisle, Illinois. Bill was a devout Catholic and a dedicated parishioner of St. Joan of Arc in Lisle for nearly 60 years. He generously gave his time to various parish and school committees and activities. He made numerous life-long friendships through St. Joan of Arc including his ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) group who enjoyed coffee every morning after daily mass. Bill loved his family! He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He loved hosting holiday dinners and enjoyed cooking as well as sharing grilling tips. Bill was a devoted grandfather to his fourteen grandchildren and made an effort to attend as many activities as he could – he was their biggest cheerleader! Bill loved life and loved golf! He was passionate about golf and in 1963, he co-founded the Early Saturday Morning Golf League (later renamed the Gene Hepler Memorial Golf League in memory of his dear friend). He was the handicap chairman since its inception. He spent many weekends playing or watching golf. Bill loved carpentry! He grew up working at the family owned Etzkorn Lumber yard. From a young age he enjoyed building and fixing things. He built numerous cabinets for friends and family and always had a tape measure in one of his pockets. He spent numerous hours helping his children with all their house projects! He also loved to travel and enjoyed spending the winters in Siesta Key, Florida. He was drawn to the water and took daily walks on the beach. He and Nancy made many friends at Casa Blanca resort in Siesta Key beach. He will be deeply missed by all of us who knew and loved him! We are comforted knowing we have a special angel in heaven. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joan of Arc School in Lisle, IL. Visitation will be Monday, November 1, 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. An additional visitation will be Tuesday, November 2, 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Closing prayers will begin at 11:00 AM at the funeral home and all will proceed to the 11:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 820 Division St., Lisle. Interment will be private.
