Stuart “Stu” Smith, 68, of Spring Valley, MN, died on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at Mayo Clinic- St. Marys Campus in Rochester, MN.

Stuart Todd Smith was born August 5, 1953 to Lauren and Jeanne (Hanson) Smith. He graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1971. Following graduation, Stu worked for the Spring Valley Light Plant as a linesman from 1971-1980. From 1980-1993 he worked at Rongars Interiors and then worked as Superintendent of Spring Valley Utilities from 1993 until retiring March 1, 2020. On July 16, 1983 Stu was united in marriage to Debra Frank at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Spring Valley. He enjoyed hunting, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, boating, fishing, cooking, and spending time around his fire pit and with family and friends. Stu was a member of the Spring Valley Sportsmen Club and the Spring Valley Fire Department from 1975-1995, and also served on the Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (SMMPA) Board. While being a part of SMMPA, he was nominated and received the national Larry Hobat 7 Hats Award.

Stuart is survived by his wife Debra Smith of Spring Valley, fur babies Panda and Benji, mother Jeanne Smith of Harmony, MN, siblings Michael Smith of Rotunda West, FL, Eileen (Ralph) Schansberg of Harmony, MN, Laurie Davidson of Dora, MO, William Smith of Dover, MN, Judy (Frank) Perry of Coon Rapids, MN, Donald Smith of Spring Valley, Adam (Tracy Nolte) Smith of Chatfield, MN, Bradley (Jackie) Smith of Spring Valley, mother-in-law Elaine Stadleman of Rochester, MN, in-laws Donovan (Kathy) Frank of Mahtomedi, MN, and Donnis (Dave) Lassig of Stewartville, MN.

He was preceded in death by his father Lauren, brother-in-law Larry Davidson, and step-father-in-law John Stadleman.

A Celebration of Life open house will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Five Wynds Event Center in Spring Valley.
