Thomas A. Volini Obituary

Tom Volini died on October 27, 2021. Many loved ones were present. He fought for life as long as possible but remained a practical person to the end knowing that when our work is finished it is time to move on. Born in Chicago on November 12, 1945, his father Doctor Italo Frederick Volini, MD, asked a colleague at Columbus Hospital to stand in for him at Tom’s delivery, a practice he followed with all other nine of Marcella’s (Ringwald) and “Freddy’s” children. The couple had retained their optimism through the war to conceive a tenth child while the war’s outcome was still unclear. They loved, lived and worked through their own children as did Tom and Loretta his former wife had done since the birth of their first child in 1972. Tom was incredibly grateful for his life. He was considered something of a medical miracle after 1987. The years that went before and followed that year was a gift to be enjoyed, an opportunity to give back what he could, finally to enjoy grown children and grandchildren. Tom is survived by his former wife Loretta, by his wife Judy Miles his earnest and loving partner in his later years, 11 of his 13 children and some of the finest sons and daughters-in-law who collaborated in bringing to the world 16 grandchildren. Their talents and dreams are immeasurable. These children chose their partners well and some element of luck was apparent too. They are Tom (Amy), Amy (Ray), Tony (Tizzy to us, Elizabeth to the world), Joe (MC to us, Mary Catherine to the world), Molly (Andy), Nora (Chris), John (who died in 2004), Dominic, Michael (who died before birth), Catherine (Ryan), Claire (Brett), Giulia, and Marcella. Two of Tom’s sisters survive, Dolores (Horan) and Yolanda (Hoffman) one of whom considered Tom a consummate cook. Visitation Friday, October 29, 2021, 1:00 p.m. until time of Funeral Mass 2:00 p.m. at Saints Joseph & Francis Xaiver Church (SFX Campus) 524 9th Street, Wilmette, IL 60091 presided over by Father Wayne Francis Watts, a hardworking priest and Tom’s fast friend. Tom will be buried in the family plot at Bronswood Cemetery in Oak Brook, IL next to his two sons, attended privately by his family.
