David “Dave” L. Kornoelje, age 80, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully at Bickford Senior Living on Monday, October 25, 2021. He was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on March 31, 1941, the son of Frederick and Theresa (Van Der Meer) Kornoelje. He leaves behind daughters, Cynthia Burgess of Muskegon and Robin (Dave) Force of Battle Creek, and sons, Timothy Kornoelje of Muskegon and Scott Kornoelje of Grandville. Dave has 17 grandchildren; of those close to his heart were Justin (Liz) and Jacob Emmons and 28 great grandchildren. He is survived by his brother, Jim Kornoelje of Battle Creek and sister-in-law, Mary Kornoelje of Kalamazoo. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, David Kornoelje Jr.; his parents, sisters, Catherine Spear, Eleanor Hagen, and Florence Wright; and brothers, Frank, Fred, Bob, and John Kornoelje. Dave was a member of the Covenant Hope Church of Battle Creek. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, watching baseball games, Gaither gospel music, and spending time with family and friends. Dave retired from Kellogg after more than 34 years of service. For anyone who knew Dave, he was a kind generous Christian man who led by example and cared more of what he could do for others than for himself. His love for the Lord, family, and friends was demonstrated routinely. His smile would light up the room and he had a cheerful disposition about him. He was a calm individual that was always there when needed. A memorial will be held at Covenant Hope Church in Battle Creek to celebrate Dave’s life at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 12th. A graveside service will be held at Memorial Park immediately after. A reception will follow after the service at Covenant Hope Church. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
