Frank H Niehaus

Frank H Niehaus, 97, of Burlington, died October 24, 2021. Born on Christmas in 1923, he was the middle son of Lawrence Henry and Lela Genieva (Piper) Niehaus. Playing sports, he graduated from Mediapolis High School with the class of 1941. Inducted into military service for World War II, Frank spent the first year in California with the Army’s coast defense unit. While there, he developed a lifelong love of southern California. With stops at many islands, Frank spent a year in the south Pacific’s Solomon Islands and a year in the Phillipines. During the battle of Luzon, he was awarded a bronze star. A tec 5, he operated search lights, anti-aircraft artillery, radio and radar units. After returning to the mainland, on November 27, 1947, he married Bette A Wilson. She died February 14, 2004. Frank worked as a tool and die maker. Starting at Klein Manufacturing he moved to Sylvania where he was the youngest member of the management staff. Other employers included Murray, IAAP and General Electric from where he retired in 1988. He was a 75 year member of the American Legion. Frank was a member of the Bass Club. He loved fishing and was very particular about his yard. Survivors include son Todd A (Janet) Niehaus of San Diego CA; daughter Lisa L (Bryan) Hill of Burlington IA. Frank was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Warren and Jerry. The funeral service for Frank Niehaus will be 11am Friday, October 29, 2021 at Lunning Chapel with Reverend Melisa Bracht-Wagner officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Internment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
