Josephine Colaluca Obituary

Josephine "Josie" Mary (Beyer) Colaluca was born in Midfield, Texas on June 8, 1933. She died in her home in Austin, Texas on October 25, 2021, after a brief illness. She was 88 years old. She was preceded in death by her father Joseph Beyer, her mother Lillian (Kalinec) Beyer, brothers Joseph Beyer, Albin Beyer and Wenceslaus Beyer, and sister Albina "Ronnie" Johnson. Also predeceasing her was her husband of 57 years, Michele Antonio Colaluca, in March of 2012, and her oldest son, Michele "Buck" Colaluca in March of 2013. She is survived by her daughter Lisa Colaluca Littrell, and her son Rick Colaluca and his partner Constance Quigley. Also survived by grandchildren Cody Littrell, his wife Dawnyae and their 3 children, grandson Clint Littrell, and granddaughter Zoe Colaluca. She spent her childhood in the small farming community of Nada, Texas. She was the oldest of 6 children, and much of her childhood was spent helping to raise her siblings. She graduated valedictorian of her class at St. Ludmila's Academy in Shiner, Texas in 1950. Shortly after graduation she moved to the big city of Austin, Texas, where she lived at the YWCA and worked at the telephone company downtown. During one of the dances at the Y, she met the love of her life and her future husband, Mike. They married at St. Mary's Cathedral in downtown Austin on April 24th, 1954. He was in the Air Force which means they moved around quite a bit; each of their children was born in a different state. He retired in 1972 and they settled in Austin, TX. Her pride in life was her husband and children and maintaining a loving and happy home for them. She was the personification of unconditional love, not only for her family, but for her friends, as well. She enjoyed many hobbies including Boy scouts, Girl Scouts, school activities with her children as well as sewing, cooking and baking. In her later years, she and Mike were involved in many activities together including volunteering with the Commemorative Air Force in San Marcos, TX and the Old Bakery & Emporium in downtown Austin, TX. They also loved to travel, and took vacations often. Josie also took yearly vacations with her sisters and sisters-in-law, always going somewhere new and different. For the last few years, she enjoyed spending lots of time with her family, including her 3 great grandchildren who adored her. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
