Funeral Services for Adalyne “Toody” Haugen 96, of Killdeer will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 29, 2021 at St. John Lutheran Church in Killdeer with Pastor Dorothy Stein officiating. Burial will follow at Killdeer Cemetery. Visitation for Toody will be from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Thursday, October 28, 2021 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Killdeer with a prayer service being held at 6:00 p.m. For those who are unable to attend, Toody's Funeral will be livestreamed. Toody passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Hilltop Home of Comfort in Killdeer. Adalyne Haugen (Toody) was born the youngest of four daughters in Dickinson, ND November 11, 1924 to Rose Marie Badinger-Reichert and Andrew Reichert. At age 96, Toody passed peacefully on October 20, 2021 at Hilltop Home of Comfort, with cherished nurse and friend Stephanie Hardersen at her side. Toody was raised in Dickinson and attended St. Francis Catholic School and Central High School. Toody married Lars Haugen and moved to Killdeer in 1946 and raised four children. Gerald (Jerry) Boehm, Geraldine (Deane), Harlan and Kevin Haugen. Toody was involved with her children through the Boys Scouts, 4-H and Sunday School. She was a member of the Killdeer Saddle Club, Killdeer Homemakers, Free Spirit Trikers, and St. John’s Lutheran Church. Toody went on mission to Mexico and built houses and fed the homeless in Seattle. She volunteered in Medora for the Theodore Roosevelt Park for many years. Toody was an active woman and always moving - shown by her many activities. As a young girl, weekends were spent roller skating. As a youngster, Toody walked from Villard Street to the Dickinson pool almost daily. She visited the Dickinson Rec Center twice a week to swim until her 90’s. Toody was one of the first to be on Lake Garrison with water skis after many years of swimming at Lake Ilo. Lars and Toody dearly loved and were excellent dancers. After retirement, Toody became an avid square dancer. Toody was a bowler for many years and played softball. Toody started riding a bicycle to work and then got a moped. On the farm she purchased a three wheeler. More traditionally, she rode horseback, then snowmobiling, and her last love was her Honda trike. After retirement, her love of Pinochle and cards was her driving force. She played cards and games daily at the Buckskin and Legacy Lodge. Her competitive nature kicked in full force when it came time to bidding. Then it was all out no matter what she held in her hand. Toody’s early employment was waitressing at the Chuck Wagon Café in Killdeer. For a time, Lars and Toody owned the “Leter go Den” bar in Killdeer. Her true career was 25 years at the ASC – where she was thankful to get to know local farmers and ranchers. This was great preparation for when she and Lars purchased the Haugen homestead. Retirement allowed time to travel –Toody visited 5 countries in Europe, China, Canada and throughout the United States with her daughter; Australia and New Zealand with her travel buddy Marlys Dolezal, Key West with daughter in law Sandy Stroh, driving to Alaska with best friend Jerry Enget and ultimately, multiple triking and snowmobiling trips with Jerry Enget, and her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry & Karen Boehm. Toody‘s greatest legacy is a myriad of many friends and relatives including multiple generations. Her vitality and feisty personality was loved by all. We had several family reunions and the greatest memory is the requests for Toody to give her “tarzan yell”. Toody brought laughter and noise to any gathering. Toody was preceded in death by her husband, Lars Haugen; sons, Gerald Boehm, and Harlan Haugen; great grandson, Justin Smith; sisters, Magadalen Axelson (Honey), Francis Reinle (Swede), and Florence Milsap (Sis); and best friend Jerry Enget. Toody is survived by children, Deane Haugen and Kevin Haugen; daughters-in-law, Karen Boehm and Sandy Stroh; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; favorite cousin Angie Fettig; special niece, Melody Cusson; and other countless nieces and nephews. We will greatly miss our strong, vivacious mother and grandmother. Grand children: Chad Boehm (Angie), Jill Boehm Smith, Darin Harrington (Lisa), Chris Haugen and Candy Forde, Toni Haugen-Barrett, Doug (Jaimie) Haugen and Daniel Haugen (Dana) and step-granddaughters Verna Hyltin Dolman and Aubrey Thorpe. Great-grandchildren: Jake and Nate Boehm, Holly, Jesse, Jordan and Justin Smith, Amber Harrington Higginbotham and Amanda Harrington Westerlund, Jace Forde and Marzel Barrett, and Logan and Iain Haugen and step grandchildren Jaxson and Ava Thorpe, Great-greatgrandchildren: Jayden, Kolden, Callie, and Landen Higginbotham and Ryder Westerlund, Ethan, Zack, Mcalya, Tia, Jordan, Jayden, and Reneseme Smith. Toody was a true North Dakotan that never wanted to live anywhere else. She enjoyed every season and every aspect of our beautiful state. Toody wanted to personally thank, Eric Kehr, Stephanie Hardersen, Pam Paul and Shari Barnes for all the kindness they showed her through the years.
