Mrs. Irene (Duval) Zmitrovis, 89, a resident of Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center of Frederick (MD) passed away Monday morning, October 18, 2021, in the nursing home. Born April 3, 1932 in New York City, NY, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Sophie (Kallus) Duval. Mrs. Zmitrovis was a high school graduate who went on to earn her master’s degree in Social Work from Rutgers University. Following her graduation, she assisted both a family mentoring program and counseled victims of sexual abuse. She and her husband, the late Robert Peter Zmitrovis, were married on January 21, 1956 in New York. They lived in Freehold, NJ for 34 years. Mr. Zmitrovis died on January 17, 1990. Mrs. Zmitrovis was a social worker for Monmouth County Social Services. She later transferred to the State of New Jersey and worked for the Division of Youth and Family Services, where she was engaged primarily in protective services of children. After 16 years, she became a psychiatric social worker at Trenton Psychiatric Hospital (NJ) and later transferred to Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital to become program coordinator for a cottage with 62 patients. She retired from state service in 1991. She was a member of Unitarian Universalists Church and she did volunteer work with hospice and helped to initiate Frederick Interfaith. She is survived by two children, Robert M. Zmitrovis of New Brunswick, NJ and Patrice Ann Zmitrovis and her husband, Tom Wilson of Berlin, MD; and by two grandchildren, Elena Morrissey of Baltimore, MD and Ayel Morrissey of New York City. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Marie Morrissey. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date in Frederick, MD.
