Warren Edward Groomes

Warren Edward Groomes 81, of Land O’ Lakes, Florida passed away October 8, 2021. Born in Washington D.C., he spent the majority of his life in Silver Spring, Maryland. After graduating the University of Maryland, Warren taught mathematics and coached cross country, educating students at White Oak Intermediate School, Springbrook High School and Stoneridge Academy. As a man of faith, he was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry and as an acolyte advisor. He spent much of his free time as an avid gardener. He was founding member of the Azalea Society of America. He spent several summers working as a Youth Conservation Corps Coordinator for the National Park Service. Warren was also an avid reader of history and enjoyed volunteering at archeological sites around the Chesapeake Bay. In 2004, he retired to Florida and became a resident of the The Groves Golf & Country Club in Land O Lakes. As a member of the community, he helped start a garden club and was active in the Travel Club serving as president of both organizations. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Judith Groomes; 2 sons, John (Joli) Groomes and David (Dr. Rebecca) Groomes; brothers, James (Leonar) Groomes; sisters, Ann (John) Pisani and Elizabeth Laroque; four grandchildren, Emma, Evan, Maggie and Tavin. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Warrens name to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church 3836 Flatiron Loop Suite 101, Wesley Chapel, FL 33544 or Springbrook High School, 201 Valley Brook Dr, Silver Spring, MD 20904. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Wesley Chapel November 6, 2021 at 11am. Strict Covid protocols will be followed and masks will be required.
