During his military career, Jim moved his family to Germany twice, to Calgary and then to Regina, where he retired in 1980. He stayed on with the military as a custodian of Camp Saskadet, located north of Kelvington, SK on Round Lake until returning to Regina in 1985. For the next 12 years, Jim was employed with the Corps of Commissionaires. He had many different duties which placed him at several locations in the city. In 1997, Jim and Mona sold their home, packed up their trailer and became Snowbirds until 2006 when Mona became ill. In 2011, Jim returned to Regina and lived in a retirement home until becoming ill in 2019 and was then placed in the Veteran's Ward of Wascana Rehabilitation Center until his death. The family would like to send their sincerest thank you to Doctor Bailey, Joel and the many staff in Unit 3-5 of the Wascana Rehabilitation Center who provided special care to Jim.

WO Hayward was a RSS with the 16 Regina Service Battalion when I was with the Battalion in Regina. I have good memories of him and lost track of him when he retired from the Regular Force. Sorry I did not know he was in Regina these many years.
