Joseph Briganti, 93, of North Smithfield and formerly of East Providence passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. He was married to his beloved wife, Dorothy A. (Almeida) Briganti for 59 years. Born in Cranston, he was a son of the late Cosimo and Maria (Giarusso) Briganti. Mr. Briganti was the owner & operator of Riverside Shoe Store for over 40 years before retiring. He was beloved in his community and was known to have served multiple generations in his retail store. Joseph enjoyed playing golf and bocce at his second home at Royal Wood Golf Club in Naples, FL. He was a proud Army veteran of the Korean War and also a member of the American Legion Riverside, Post 10. Besides his wife he leaves his three children, Lisa M. Rein and her husband Michael of Franklin, MA, Lorna A. Briganti of Raleigh, NC and Joseph A. Briganti and his wife Alejandra of San Clemente, CA. Joseph was a loving grandfather to six grandchildren, Julia, Victoria, Alex, Zack, Natalia and Briana. He was the brother of the late Josephine Porreca, Louise Chark, Carmela Fiore, Cosimina Cardi, his twin sister Mary Haynes and Cosimo “Ray” Briganti. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 21 Traverse Street, Providence. Burial with Military Honors will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
