Helen Katherine Church, age 93, of North Pownal, Vermont went to be with her Lord on October 19 at her North Pownal home. Helen was born on September 8, 1928 in Sarcoxie, Missouri to the late John and Virginia Karr. She graduated from Hoosick Falls High School and completed one year of college at John Brown University. She married Earle V. Church on April 13, 1949. Together they owned and operated the Church dairy farm in North Pownal. Helen was an active and vital member of the North Pownal Congregational Church. She served in many capacities, including Sunday School teacher, organist and a member of the Congregational Women's Fellowship. She served as Sunday School Superintendent for more than 30 years. Helen was also a member of the North Pownal Parent-Teacher Club. In 1964 she received the Layman's Award given by the Bennington Southwest District Teachers' Association, recognizing her outstanding contributions to youth activities and community service. Beyond her involvement in the church and community, Helen's passion was her home and family. She loved God, her family, and the farm. She was a devoted wife and mother. Her home and family were the center of her life. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brothers Robert and Alan Karr, and her husband of 52 years, Earle Church. Helen is survived by her three sons, Bill Church and his wife Susan of Saratoga Springs, NY, Gary Church of North Pownal, and Ted Church and his wife Nancy of Florida, MA.; seven grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. Calling hours for Helen will be at the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, 213 Main Street in Bennington, VT. on Sunday, October 24 from 3:00-5:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at the North Pownal Congregational Church, Route 346 in North Pownal at 11 AM on Monday, October 25 officiated by Pastors William Church and Michael Carrel, followed by a graveside service and burial at Meadowbrook Cemetery, Rt. 22 in Petersburg, NY. The family deeply appreciates the care provided for Helen by Dr. Angela Wingate, VNA/Hospice nurses Lisa Cramer and Emily Galease, and caregivers from At Home Senior Care.
