Richard L. Arpante, Sr.
<p>Richard Louis Arpante, Sr., 92 of Pittsfield, passed away October 17, 2021.</p><p><br></p><p>Born in Pittsfield on September 1, 1929, he was the son of Luigi and Louisa Altobelli Arpante. </p><p><br></p><p>He attended Pittsfield schools.</p><p><br></p><p>Richard was last employed by General Electric Company in the Ordnance Division for many years. Prior to that he was a City of Pittsfield Firefighter for 17 years.</p><p><br></p><p>A communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, he enjoyed gardening and walking. He had participated in the Senior Olympics, in and out of state and medaled in volley ball and track. </p><p><br></p><p>In his retirement, Richard enjoyed traveling to Italy. He was a volunteer for Elder Services and DSS, and would read to the children in Pittsfield Public Schools. He also was a volunteer at Tanglewood. </p><p><br></p><p>Mr. Arpante leaves behind his daughter, Lisa A. Arnold and husband Brent of Vail, CO; three sons, Richard L. Arpante, Jr., of Pittsfield, Thomas A. Arpante and wife Kelley of Sanford, NC, and Robert P. Arpante and wife Shelley of Dalton, MA; as well as nine grandchildren. He also leaves his longtime friend and companion, Shirley Hallett of Pittsfield. </p><p><br></p><p>He was predeceased by his four brothers, Michael, James, Henry and Augusta Arpante; and four sisters, Arlene DiNicola, Viola Guachione, Clara Pictrowski and Beatrice Barris.</p><p><br></p><p>FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mr. Arpante will be held, THURSDAY, October 21, 2021 at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield, with Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor of Sacred Heart Church officiating. Calling hours will precede the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will be private at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his name to Elder Services in care of the funeral home. </p><p><br></p>Obituary
