Howard Archer McKay July 11,1923 – October 14, 2021 Passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Veteran’s Centre on the evening of October 14 in his 98th year. Howard was born on the family farm in the hamlet of Coulson’s Hill, Ontario, to parents Lillian Archer and Stuart McKay. He attended Bradford High School and later moved to Orillia. After joining the First Canadian Army Corp at U of T in 1943, Howard served during WW2 in the Liberation of the Netherlands. Also in 1943, Howard was married to Joan Marsden (died July 1946). In 1952, beginning a new chapter in his life, Howard married Lois Hammond (died June 2019). In that same year they moved to Mimico and Howard began a long career with North American Life Insurance. In 1957 he moved his family to Richmond Hill. His home would remain there until going to Sunnybrook Veteran's Centre in June 2019. After retirement Howard also enjoyed driving a school bus and learned to be a bicycle mechanic. Howard is predeceased by his brothers Richard and Alexander, both having lived in the United States. Sadly, Howard is also predeceased by his much loved grandson, Stephen Andrew McKay (2008). Howard will be greatly missed by his children Dianne, Scott/Vera and Craig. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Geneva/Ian Hewetson, Lloyd Baggs, Peter Murray, and great-grandchildren: Floreana and Ridley Hewetson, Lila Mcintosh Murray. He is survived by sister-in-law Doreen Carmichael, her sons Richard, Jeffery, David and their families. We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Hung and the entire staff at Sunnybrook Veteran’s Centre for the exemplary care Dad received throughout his stay there. We are eternally grateful. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 23rd at Marshall Funeral Home,10366 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill, from 3-5pm. Celebration of Howard’s Life at 7pm.
