John M. Peterson, Jr. Attorney at Law, age 70, of Portola Valley, CA passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, at his Vineyard home, on October 7, 2021 surrounded by and under the care of his family. The Peterson & Cortada Alta Vineyards, in the Santa Lucia Highlands, were John's passion and the Mansfield-Dunne label will be his legacy.

John was born in Evergreen Park on June 15, 1951 and was the son of the late John M. & Virginia “Ginny”

(nee Dunne) Peterson. John was a Partner at Baker McKenzie. He was internationally known as a transformational tax attorney; he practiced law for 47 years until his retirement. He has been named among the top Tax lawyers in the country.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Lynn M. Peterson; his step-son Jim Fowler; his grandson, James Fowler, VI (Six); his siblings, Tim (Anjela) Peterson, Sheila (the late Andy) Jaskierski, Chris (Patty) Peterson, Dan (Jana) Peterson, Maureen (Bill) Kennelly, Marybeth (Mark) Ulrich and Nancy ( Randy) Schmidt. Uncle of Jaime (Sam), Blake, Andre, Nathalie, Laura (James), Katie (Jim), Lisa (Tom), Julie, Tess, Lauren (Jon), Ana, Ryan, Bridget, Patrick, Erin, Ben, Meg, Riley, Patrick, and Annie Cate. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his step-son, Paul Fowler, and a niece, Faith. Family and friends will gather for a Graveside Funeral Service on Monday, October 18, 2021 at 12:30 P.M. St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine with Rev. Terry Keehan, officiating.
