Charles "Mohawk" Smith

<p>Charles Edward Smith was born June 3, 1957, to the late Catherine Smith in Oxford, MS.</p> <p>“Mohawk,” as he was affectionately called, received his education from Oxford City Schools and graduated in OHS’s Class of 1974. After high school, he went on to serve his country by enlisting in the United States’ Army. While in the military, Charles found a love for boxing and boxed professionally for well over 15 years.</p> <p>After basic training, Charles was stationed in Honolulu, HI and met and married the love of his life, Eunice Kihei. To this union, they shared two children.</p> <p>Also, while in the army, Charles furthered his education and enrolled Hawaii Pacific University. There he received an Associate’s Degree in Business Management but he wasn’t finished yet. He also received a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Mississippi.</p> <p>When Charles retired from the military, he became a Deputy for Lafayette County Sherriff’s Department. He was hardworking and dedicated to whatever he set his mind to do. In his spare time, Charles loved to spend time with his granddaughters.</p> <p>On Sunday, October 10, 2021, after a long bout with his illnesses, the Lord welcomed His servant home and said well done.</p> <p>Left to mourn his death and celebrate his life are his beloved wife of 42 years, Eunice K. Smith; children, Kawika Kihei of Vero Beach, FL and Kuuipo (Johnny) Shaw of Oxford, MS; 5 grandchildren, Zela, Znya, Zaria, and Kalissa Kihei, and Zrasja Shaw all of Oxford, MS; siblings, Pastor Harry (Apostle Eyvonne) Smith, Preston Smith, Cassandra Porter, Vonda Agulanna all of Oxford, MS, Modupe Ogenyumi of San Francisco, CA, David Craig Corrothers of Birmingham, AL, Denise Crowder of Southaven, MS, Jeanette Child of South Carolina, Carolyn Houston of Racine, WI, and Alvin (Wanda) Archie of Water Valley, MS and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.</p> <p>Charles was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine Smith, and siblings, Lois Woods, Marie Pringle, and Esther Lee Smith.</p>
