LORENE CAROLYN (nee KNUTSON) METZ, 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 15, 2021, at Riderwood in Silver Spring, Md. Born in South Porcupine, Ontario, Canada, in 1926, she was the oldest of three siblings and a daughter of Augustus A. Knutson and Anna L. Raymo Knutson. Shirley and Bill preceded her in death. After graduating from high school, Lorene moved to the United States. She married Aubrey Harold Biggs, and together they created two children, Christopher Harold and Holly Ann. Lorene married John Lewis Metz in 1968, and they lived a happy life in Bluffton and Fort Wayne for the next 43 years. She spent her life as a mother and homemaker. She also volunteered at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art and at Lutheran Health Services. Lorene would light up the room with her big smile and always fancied being fashionable. She enjoyed engaging with people for a good laugh. She loved playing bridge and dancing. Lorene was still dancing in her Latin dance class at Riderwood until the age of 92. Lorene always had a dog for company, and her most recent companion Ricky, a 20-year-old Papillon, will miss her greatly. Her memory will be kept alive by her two children, Christopher Biggs (Angel Hardy) and Holly (Jeffrey) Kaufman; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Royall, Ian Biggs and AJ Biggs; five great-grandchildren; stepson, John Edward (Elaine) Metz; and two grandchildren: Nicole Gierach and Tracey Moore; and five great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Abigail Biggs. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Lorene's ashes will be buried with John at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Bluffton, Indiana.
