He was a Beloved Husband, Brother, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather: Rufus Don Epperson was born on September 11th, 1943, in Tipton Oklahoma. He has been a resident of Anchorage Alaska for many decades and has passed on Saturday, October 9th, 2021. Rufus was a pillar of strength for his family, community, and country. He spent over 22 years in the military was a Vietnam veteran and retired as a First Sergeant of the United States Army. He Then pursued his many passions in life such as music, technology, travel, food and above all his family. He was a man of God and became a local preacher at Leake Temple AME Zion church where he continued to be of service to God and the community. He was a light in the path of darkness, an angel at a time of distress and a very caring person for anyone who wanted or needed his worldly wisdom and help. He was a jolly giant to kids, the life of the party with a laugh that could fill a room and a heart as big as the state he resided in for most of his adult life. Preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Epperson-Sanders is survived by his wife Mary Epperson, two children Rufus Epperson jr. and Cassandra King, grandchildren, great grandchildren, his three sisters and many nieces’ nephews, cousins, and friends. The family of Rufus gratefully acknowledges, with sincere appreciation the comforting expressions of sympathy, rendered through cards, telephone calls, messages, and everyday acts of kindness during our bereavement.
