Barbara L. Adams Obituary

OBITUARY  Barbara Adams was born on March 24, 1935, in Tampa, Florida to Lorene Ruth Randolph. On November 20, 2017, Barbara Adams passed away at Holy Cross Hospital at the age of 82 with her daughter Michelle, and granddaughter Martina, at her side.  Barbara was preceded by her loving mother, Lorene Randolph, who together religiously, spiritually, and with an enormous amount of quality time raised five children: Erel (Michelle – deceased), of Washington, DC: Donnell (Penny) of Atlanta, Georgia; Raynell (Lisa) of West Chester, Ohio; Darryl (Alicia) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; and Michelle of Hyattsville, Maryland.  Barbara raised her children to be successful, but more importantly respectful to everyone. She was extremely proud of her children for their successes in their adult life. It would go without saying that her children were also proud of their mother, who as a single parent, and with the help of her mother, Lorene Randolph, raised five children.  Barbara also leaves behind several grandchildren: Danielle, Martina, Alexis, Jasmine, Kristi, Taft, Diablo, Kimberly, and Ashley along with numerous others who Barbara claimed as her own. One of Barbara’s most cherished adopted children was her “son” Michael Morton, her neighbor and her friend during her last few years of her life.  Barbara also had two very special adopted daughters, Tarsha Hall-Thompson and Jasmine Welch. Barbara was a long tenured member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Washington DC, where all her children attended grade school.  Barbara could always be seen volunteering at St. Gabriel Parish wearing a number of different hats which included, but not limited to, substitute teaching and Cub Scout leader.  Barbara was an avid sports fan and she could always be “heard” cheering for her kids at games.  But for anyone who really knew Barbara, you would never, never call or visit her when her beloved Washington Redskins were playing!!!   Barbara retired from the Federal Government General Services Administration in 1994 after 29 years of loyal service in different clerical positions. Following her retirement, she lead a very simple life which included purchasing a big screen TV set to watch the Washington Redskins play, learning how to drive a car, as well as buying her first car.  During the last few years of her life, she did what she vowed to do her entire life by selling her Hamilton Street residence and living by herself in peace and quiet.  It goes without saying that Barbara’s new home, although not her Hamilton Street address, was just another place for everyone to call “Home.”       Arrangements by J.
