Obituary
Martha Vermelle Fisher, 82, widow of James L. Fisher, Sr., died Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Palmetto Heart Hospital in Columbia. Born November 15, 1938, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Wallace Hartwell Marshall and the late Juanita Hodge Marshall Shade. She retired as the manager of the Beacon Theaters and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church at Oswego. Survivors include three children, James L. “Jamie” Fisher, Jr. (Pam) of Sumter, Lori Dunlap-Barwick (Charlie) of Manning, and Kevin M. Fisher of Sumter; four grandchildren, Patrick Fisher, Amanda Neilson (R.J.), D.J. Dunlap (Meghan), and Teresa L. Dunlap; nine great-grandchildren, A.J., Bella, Kaelyn, Warren, Raven, Ryleigh, Savannah, Alexis, and Summer; a sister, Marena Spann (Johnny) of Sumter; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Roy Wallace “Buddy” Fisher; and three sisters, Sara Ellen Stafford, Linda Bradham, and Betty Jean Marshall. A memorial service will be held at 6 P.M. Saturday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Allan Glass officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 P.M. Saturday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.
