Martha Vermelle Fisher

Martha Vermelle Fisher, 82, widow of James L. Fisher, Sr., died Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Palmetto Heart Hospital in Columbia. Born November 15, 1938, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Wallace Hartwell Marshall and the late Juanita Hodge Marshall Shade. She retired as the manager of the Beacon Theaters and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church at Oswego. Survivors include three children, James L. “Jamie” Fisher, Jr. (Pam) of Sumter, Lori Dunlap-Barwick (Charlie) of Manning, and Kevin M. Fisher of Sumter; four grandchildren, Patrick Fisher, Amanda Neilson (R.J.), D.J. Dunlap (Meghan), and Teresa L. Dunlap; nine great-grandchildren, A.J., Bella, Kaelyn, Warren, Raven, Ryleigh, Savannah, Alexis, and Summer; a sister, Marena Spann (Johnny) of Sumter; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Roy Wallace “Buddy” Fisher; and three sisters, Sara Ellen Stafford, Linda Bradham, and Betty Jean Marshall. A memorial service will be held at 6 P.M. Saturday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Allan Glass officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 P.M. Saturday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association — USA National Office, 161 N. Clark, Suite 3550, Chicago, Illinois 60601. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
