Mike Hickman

Michael Lee Hickman, age 42 of Monroe, passed away peacefully at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital on October 13th, 2021 after a valiant battle with cancer. Born June 3rd, 1979 in Royal Oak to Robert L. and Kathleen M. (Diegel) Hickman. He married Carrie Jo Kenney on July 10th, 2004 and from this union they were blessed with one daughter Layla Paige. A 1997 graduate of Airport High School, Mike was a talented welder and fabricator throughout his career. He finally achieved his dream of starting his mobile welding and fabricating business before his untimely diagnosis. Mike was a talented musician and avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking, camping, fishing, and trail riding his dirt bike. Mike was also very spiritual and especially proud of his Ojibewa heritage. Michael leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Carrie and precious daughter Layla of Monroe; parents Robert and Kathleen Hickman of South Rockwood; brother Bobby Hickman of South Rockwood; mother-in-law Donna Kenney of Monroe; and grandparents-in-law Winston and Virginia Peterson of Monroe. Also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Michael is preceded in death by his grandparents Gladys Hickman and William and Margaret Diegel, father-in-law Jeffrey R. Kenney, and brothers-in-law Jeffrey W. Kenney and Brandon Kenney. The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Charboneau, Dr. Damiani, Dr. Saste , Dr. Jennifer Grant, Dr. Chamberlain, Jill Ferderer CNP and staff, 2 South, and ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital Surgical Department for their exceptional care of Mike during his illness.
