Shirley M. Lampe
<p>Shirley M. Lampe, 92 of Belgrade, died Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at the Belgrade Nursing Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 21, 2021 at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church in Belgrade. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade.</p> <p>Shirley M. Lampe was born on February 5, 1929 in Glenwood, the daughter of Rodney and Julia (Kupka) McLean. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood. She grew up in the Glenwood area where she attended public school, graduating in 1947. She continued her education at St. Cloud teachers’ college, graduating in 1949. She received her bachelor of science degree in elementary education in 1988.</p> <p>On June 15, 1953, Shirley was united in marriage to Leonard G. Lampe in Glenwood. To this union one daughter was born. They made their home in Belgrade where she taught until her retirement in 1994. She loved teaching so much that her famous quote was that she would have paid the school to let her teach.</p> <p>Shirley was an active member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where she sang in choir and was involved in many activities. She was also a member of the VFW auxiliary for many years. </p> <p>Shirley is survived by her daughter, Susan (Daniel) Betz of Belgrade; granddaughter, Kristen (Kurt) Schimpke; great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Grace; and sisters-in-law, Margaret Simon of Minneapolis and Marge Simon of Portland, OR.</p> <p>Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard in 1989; grandson, Brandon in February 14, 2013; sister, Charlotte; brothers, Carlyle and Roman and brother-in-law, John Gaffaney. </p>February 5, 1929 - October 13, 202102/05/192910/13/2021

Mrs. Lampe was my 2nd grade teacher in 1970. She had a huge impact on me. For the last 51 years I have carried her kindness that she gave in my heart every day. What a beautiful woman.

I will always cherish Mrs. Lampe as my 1st grade teacher in 1984-1985. She was my inspiration to become a teacher a to follow in her footsteps! I will take her life lessons with me always!
