Emma Frances McCrory

EMMA FRANCES (O’BANNON) MCCRORY, age ninety-two, quietly slipped away and transitioned into eternal rest on Sunday, October 10, 2021, at Mt. Carmel East Hospital, surrounded by family. Emma was born on Friday, June 14, 1929, in Columbus, Ohio. She was the daughter of Howard O’Bannon and Anna Mae (Tate) Perry. The second oldest of eleven children, Emma left high school to work and help care for her younger siblings. Emma was a strong woman and loved the Lord. She was baptized at Hebrew Baptist Church at an early age. Emma later joined Tabernacle Baptist Church in 1972, where she worked tirelessly on the Senior Usher Board for forty-nine years. In 1949, Emma was united in marriage to James Louis McCrory, Sr. To this union, four children were born. Her life’s action was geared toward serving the Lord and making her family’s life better. She assisted many in her family with whatever the need. Family and friends would stop by to seek Ms. Emma’s advice or counsel. She was truly a virtuous woman and inspired many people to become the best that they could be, for she never judged anyone. Emma retired, as a food service supervisor, from The Ohio State University, with thirty-three years of dedicated service. In her leisure, she enjoyed spending time with family, working seek and find puzzles, and playing the numbers. Emma F. McCrory was preceded in death by her father, Howard O’Bannon; mother, Anna Mae (Tate) Perry; sons, James Louis McCrory Jr. and Charles B. “Tuburk” McCrory; sisters, Mary Ellen Griffin, Pearly Ann Gwen, Maxine O’ Bannon, and Wanetta Jackson; and brothers, William, Charles Lee, Melvin, and Leroy O’Bannon. She is survived by her daughter, Theresa F. (Charles) Gunnell; son, Rickie McCrory; sisters, Norma Jean O’Bannon and Lillian Traylor; three grandsons; eight granddaughters; and a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. EMMA WAS OUR ROCK AND WILL BE GREATLY MISSED.
