Obituary
Marsha Marie Jorden was born to the late Elmira and Edward Alston August 20, 1946 in Elizabeth, NJ. Marsha matriculated through the Union Public School system and graduated from Union High School in 1964. In her youth, Marsha enjoyed playing volleyball, reading, and bowling. After a long courtship, in 1964 Marsha married her childhood sweetheart, the late Sidney Jorden, Jr. This union yielded two daughters, Denise and Danielle. Sid and Marsha also raised Shirley Hutchins, Alicia Hutchins, Kimberly Hannah (deceased) and Gerald Smith. They were also caregivers and mentors to young relatives and neighborhood youth.
At an early age, Marsha accepted Christ attending First Baptist Church in Vauxhall, NJ. In adulthood, she became a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church in Springfield, NJ and served as church secretary for over 20 years.
Marsha worked for Novartis (Ciba Geigy) for 30+ years starting on the line and ending her tenure as a packaging supervisor. Following Novartis, she worked for Lohman Therapy Systems (LTS) as a production supervisor.
Marsha was an avid traveler and enjoyed taking excursions to the islands with family and friends. She was loved by many and will be remembered for her open heart and open home. She was the neighborhood mom/granny who always had an extra seat (or five) at her dinner table, a warm smile, a much-needed dose of reality or just the right words of comfort. All were welcomed. And let’s not forget she made the BEST CORNED BEEF around!
Preceding her in death were parents Elmira and Edward, husband Sidney, and brother Ronald. She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters Denise Creekmur of Covington, GA, and Danielle Jorden-Ellis (Reggie) of Owings Mills, MD; six grandchildren DeShaun (Noelle), Jason (Kayesha), Shanise (Kelly), Destini, Karisma, and Riley, two great-granddaughters Natalia and Kelise, sisters Penny (Charles) and Patricia (Stacey), sister-in-law Msifiri Jorden-Bey, and her faithful companion Anthony Stevens, along with a host of nieces, nephews, The Breakfast Club and other cherished family members and friends.
