Eva A. Sunkel

Eva A. Sunkel, age 87, passed away on October 12, 2021 at Altercare North-Newark Nursing Home. She was born December 31, 1933 in St. Louisville, Ohio to the late Virgil and Ruth (Berger) McCullough. Family and friends may attend visitation on Sunday, October 17, from 3-5p.m. with a funeral service beginning at 5 p.m. at The Heath Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 1249 Hebron Road, Heath. Burial will follow at a later date. Eva married the love of her life Donald Sunkel in 1953. Together they raised three daughters, Janice, Susan and Donna. She was a dedicated and generous person who loved spending time with her family. She was a caretaker for her mother and husband and Eva retired from Sharon Brooke Assisted Living after nearly a decade of dietary service. Eva enjoyed life, going on trips around town with her daughter, Donna, and making friends while out in the community. She liked to crochet, do needle work, and work crossword puzzles. She was an OSU Football and sports fan. She is survived by her three daughters, Janice L. Smith, Susan A. (Joseph) Blaine and Donna J. Sunkel; five grandchildren, Kristina (Susan Landrum) Blaine, Anthony (Trisha) Blaine, Mary Skeans, Regina Reynolds and Thomas Smith II; and four great-grandchildren, Sophie, Ryan, Jocelyn and Henry; two brothers, Virgil McCullough and Jerry (Sandy) McCullough; a sister, Patricia (John) Stott; two sisters-in-law, Julia McCullough and Freda McCullough and three grand-dogs, Daisy, Marietta, and Brandy and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Eva was preceded in death by her dear husband, Donald Sunkel (1984); four brothers, William McCullough, C. Russell McCullough, Ronald McCullough and Donald McCullough; and two sisters, Dorothy (John) Booher and Betty McCullough. The family would like to thank the Hospice of Central Ohio Team and the nurses in the Memory Care Unit at Altercare North-Newark who cared for their mother. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, Attn: Philanthropic Development, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, OH 43055. The Heath Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
