Barbara Ann Box Barrington

A visitation for Barbara Ann Box Barrington will be held at the East Leesville Baptist Church Life Center on Thursday, October 14, 2021, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A private graveside service will be held in the Beech Grove Cemetery with Reverend Jason Nolde officiating under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. Barbara passed away on October 12, 2021, at the age of 84. She was born on March 7, 1937, in Marthaville, Louisiana. She attended school in both Leesville, LA and Natchitoches, LA. While she lived most of her life in Leesville, Barbara always had a soft spot in her heart for Natchitoches. Barbara met the love of her life, her husband Lonnie, in June of 1953 in Leesville while he was home on a weekend pass from Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS. They maintained a long-distance courtship for the next 6 months, with Lonnie returning home to Leesville every other weekend. They were married on December 19, 1953, and remained in Biloxi until Lonnie’s tour was over at which time they returned to Leesville and Lonnie went to work civil service at Fort Polk. Upon the base closing in 1959, Lonnie went to work for RCA and Lonnie and Barbara lived in California, Wyoming, and Nebraska. Deciding they were homesick and tired of the frequent moves, they returned home to Leesville and Lonnie resumed his civil service career at Fort Polk, which by that time had reopened. Barbara was a loving and devoted mother and homemaker, who loved to cook for her family and was well known for her scrumptious fried chicken and tasty meatloaf. Holiday cooking and baking was a special passion for Barbara, at Christmas each of the children and grandchildren looked forward to receiving a tin of her homemade fudge. She loved nothing more than having her house full with her children, grandchildren, or great grandchildren. Holiday celebrations were always a special time for Barbara, and even on Halloween, her house was Grand Central Station for all of the neighborhood kids, families, and friends. Barbara loved to sew and made period costumes for the family to wear to the Centennial Celebration in downtown Leesville in 1976. She also enjoyed reading and traveling with her family. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Lonnie F. Barrington; her parents, Ellis O’Lee Box and Cherry Guin Box; brothers, Ellis Hardin Box and Howard Lee Box. Those left to cherish her memory are her children: sons, Mike (Mary) Barrington and Danny (Michelle) Barrington; daughters, Sandy (Dale) Richmond and Trish (Randy) Bennett all of Leesville, LA; grandchildren, Chris Richmond of Leesville, Chasity (Paul) Cryer of Leesville, Carly (Art) Barlow of Clarksville, Tennessee, Lauren Barrington (Aaron Davis) of Pensacola, Florida, and Trey Bennett of Leesville; great grandchildren, Cole Cryer, Addie Cryer, Waylon Richmond, and Josephine Richmond all of Leesville, Noah Davis of Pensacola, Florida, Isabella Barlow, and Emilia Barlow of Clarksville, Tennessee. Pallbearers will be Chris Richmond, Trey Bennett, Cole Cryer, Paul Cryer, Ronnie Perkins, and David Causey.
