Marianne F. (Graveson) Balboni Obituary

Marianne F. (Graveson) Balboni, 87, of South Windsor, devoted & loving wife of 53 years to the late Richard M. Balboni, Sr. passed away peacefully into the arms of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, Oct. 8, 2021. Born July 15, 1934 in Hartford, CT, daughter of the late Albert and Mary (Johnson) Graveson of East Hartford. Marianne attended grade school at St. Mary’s and graduated from EHHS where she was on the tennis team. Following HS she went on to work at Travelers and CT. General prior to opening and running her own business. Frame Fair was a do-it-yourself picture framing store that Marianne started with her friend Evon Vander Putten in Newington, along with a second store in Holyoke, MA. She was a proud business owner for 19 years. In addition, she was a member & past president of The Exchange Club of East Hartford. Marianne was a devout Catholic and served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years at St. Margaret Mary Church & Our Lady Star of the Sea, SC, as well as ministering to the sick and homebound. She found much happiness in caring for others and lending a helping hand to those most in need. Marianne and Richard raised their family in South Windsor. Their home on Berle Road was a place of many fond memories where friends and family were always welcome. Marianne hosted many holiday gatherings, family celebrations and pool parties that many share stories of to this day. Marianne retired with Richard down south to Little River, SC in 1997. They lived in a beautiful home and enjoyed the warmth, hospitality and southern lifestyle, meeting many wonderful friends while having family & friends vacation at their home many times throughout their years there. Moving back home to SW in 2014 to further enjoy their children and grandchildren in their final years. Marianne had many hobbies including crocheting, knitting and various arts and crafts in which she made family & friends beautiful gifts. She also loved to collect elephants, even having an “elephant room” in her home with hundreds of elephant items and decor throughout! Her and Richard loved to travel and took their family on amazing vacations around the world, including such places as The Canary Islands, England and Mexico. In addition, Marianne enjoyed many camping trips with her family to various places along the east coast and beyond, including a month long trip to Mexico. Her favorite yearly place to camp was in Myrtle Beach, SC. Marianne was a huge fan of UConn Women's BB, always making it a point to catch each and every game on TV. However, her favorite and most loved hobby was gardening. She had a green thumb beyond most and her beautiful gardens of flowers and plants spoke for themselves. It was in her gardens that she felt most at peace. Marianne was an animal lover, owning many dogs & cats over the years. She held a special place in her heart for Shelties with Bonnie & Buster being her most recent sibling pair, along with her black cat, Tara, whom she proudly would share “lived to the age of 24”! She also fed any and all outdoor critters and loved feeding and watching the beautiful birds around her condo. Marianne was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed. She is survived by her five children; Maryrose Luce (Danny), Linda Champagne (Ronald), Mark Balboni, Richard Balboni Jr. (Jacqueline) and Cynthia Stoddard (Chris). Ten grandchildren; Jeannette, Amy, Stephen, Brittney, Taylor, Alexandra, Anastasia, Antonia, Matthew and Sarah, as well as her six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. In addition, Marianne is survived by her cousin and friend, Sister Patty Cook, her SIL and friend Barbara Balboni and her husband Mauro and her best friend of 64 years, Patricia Brown. To know Marianne was to love her and even her most recent neighbors at her condo became her close friends over the last few years. Nitin, his wife, and children along with Andrea and her husband were like family and very special to Marianne. Her family felt blessed to have them be a part of Marianne’s final years. She also leaves behind many dear friends from down south whom she spoke highly of. The family would like to thank family friend/Cardiologist, Dr. Thomas Knox and PCP/Nephrologist Dr. Alfred Vichot for their loving care and support of their mom. Marianne loved both physicians and the extra care and support they provided her allowed her to live with dignity and comfort in her final months. Calling hours will be held on Monday, October 18, 2021 at Samsel & Carmen Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd, South Windsor from 4-6 pm with a prayer service at 6 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Marianne F. Balboni to St. Junipero Serra Parish, St. Margaret Mary Church, 80 Hayes Rd., So.
