On October 11, 2021 after an eight year battle with cancer, Lynda Shizuko den Boef of Nanoose Bay, British Columbia passed away at the age of 74 to be with her Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. Her loving husband of more than 50 years, Anthonie den Boef and their children were at her side during the final hours.

Lynda was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan during a train stopover en-route to Ontario from a BC interment camp for Canadians of Japanese ancestry. Lynda spent much of her childhood years in St. Catherines, Ontario. Years later, when working as an accountant, Lynda met her future husband, Anthonie den Boef in Toronto, Ontario. She married Anthonie eight months later on September 3, 1971 at Toronto’s Old City Hall. Six years later, Lynda left her career to become a full-time homemaker and mom with the upcoming birth of their first child. Together they were blessed with and raised two wonderful children, Teresa and Paul. Being a stay-at home mother for her children was very important to Lynda.

Lynda and Anthonie were active members of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Whitby, Ontario until they moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1984. They moved to their new home on Vancouver Island in 2002 following Anthonie’s retirement. Lynda greatly enjoyed crewel embroidery and water-colour painting until she no longer could pursue these hobbies due to the ravages of a most aggressive cancer and its treatment. During her in-home palliative care, Lynda received loving care and help from devoted regional physicians, nurses, friends & neighbours and her husband, Anthonie.

Lynda and Anthonie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in September, 2021. Her final days were spent at Trillium Hospice in Parksville where she received exceptional care. Lynda is survived by her husband, Anthonie and out-of-province progeny and siblings: children, Teresa (Huy) and Paul (Mara), and two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Ryan, sister Eiko, brother Kanao, and nieces & nephews all of whom reside in Ontario. She was predeceased by her father and mother, Kiheiji & Misao Nishimura and brother, Akira.
