Deacon Henry Ralph Smith was born to George Smith and Theresa Bell Holcomb Smith on June 6, 1928 in Cumberland County, Virginia. He was one of seven children, Ruth, Rebecca, Eddie, Monroe, Madelyn, Mary Alice, Roberta, and Vina, all who proceeded him in death.

Deacon Henry Smith accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Midway Baptist Church and became a member. He went on to serve as a trustee and later he was ordained and served as a Deacon until God called him home to serve in His kingdom.

Deacon Henry moved to New York at the age of 16. There he worked various jobs such as the New York City Board of Education. Deacon Henry was drafted in 1952 and served in France until 1954. Deacon Henry returned home and on February 11, 1954 he married Inell Smith and they remained married until her death. Unto their union 4 children were born: Stephen Hewitt (deceased), Theresa, Andre, and Ralph. Deacon Henry served in the Army Reserve until 1957. Deacon Henry continued to work in New York City for many more years. He then went on to work for the New Yor City Transit Authority for 27 years until retiring.  Deacon Henry then relocated back to Farmville, VA. He then met and married Margaret Copeland where they were blessed together and celebrated 30 years of marriage on October 12, 2021.

Deacon Henry leaves to cherish his memories his lovely, supportive and praying wife, Minister Margaret C. Smith; His children: Theresa, Andre (Alisa), Ralph and Stan (Jennifer); thirteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and adopted nephew Dylan C. Penningroth.
