Harrison Myles McClain, 15, of Hattiesburg, passed away Sunday October 10, 2021. Visitation will be 12:30 pm until service time. Funeral services will be at 3:30 pm on Saturday at Temple Baptist Church. Harrison was a student at Presbyterian Christian School and a member of Temple Baptist Church. He enjoyed basketball, the beach, Mexican food, playing video games, and spending time with his friends. He was a Duke TIP Finalist, an A+ student, and he played multiple sports over his lifetime. He loved his older brother Dylan dearly, and he was fiercely loyal to his family and friends. Harrison suffered a life threatening stroke in August 2020 which required emergency brain surgery and a month in the hospital, followed by months of rehab. He had to relearn how to walk, swallow, and do other tasks but he continued to work extremely hard. He was considered a walking miracle, and, he eventually rejoined his basketball team for one special game, sinking a three pointer and a buzzer beater in the first quarter. Harrison's story was made public and he inspired others. He was never bitter, and he was thankful that he had the stroke because it made him closer to God and it helped others as well. Harrison is survived by his parents, Dr. Matt and Tiffany McClain and his brother, Dylan McClain, of Hattiesburg, as well as his grandparents Dr. Eldon and Dixie McClain of Ocean Springs and Danny and Vickie Waggoner of Pearl, and his uncle, Jim McClain (Juli) of Mobile, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made, in Harrison's name. There is a designated fund in Harrison McClain's name at Children's of Mississippi (Batson Hospital), Presbyterian Christian School, Samaritan's Purse, and Temple Baptist Church.
