Kayla Ann DePue, age 20, of Independence, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021, at her home. A celebration of life visitation will be held Saturday, October 16, 2021, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Zach Webb Family Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Animals With Our Love (AWOL) or Nature.org conservancy partnership with indigenous peoples or simply plant a tree in memory of Kayla. Contributions may be sent to Zach Webb Family Funeral Service, 1475 S. 10th, Independence, KS 67301. Kayla was born February 27, 2001, in Independence. She grew up in Independence, attending Independence High School and Independence Community College School of Cosmetology. She graduated in 2018 and held a variety of local jobs. Kayla married Blake DePue on October 10, 2020, and he passed away August 20, 2021. Kayla loved the outdoors, nature, makeup, cats, family and friends. Survivors include: Her parents, Melinda Banning and Nick McCollam of the home. Sister, Sadee McCollam, of the home. Grandparents, Randal Banning, Teresa Jones and Patty Blex, all of Independence, KS, and Kathi McClaren, of Olathe, KS. Aunts and uncles, Heather, Shannon, Randy, Crystal, Ashley, Bobby & Ellie, Corey & Tonja and Shawn. Her in-laws, Becky & Greg Fox, Shayla Littau and Brock DePue. Numerous members of extended family and many friends. Kayla was preceded in death by her husband, Blake, grandmother, Linda Banning, grandfather, David Blex, and uncle, Jeremy Akers. The family has entrusted the arrangement of the services to Zach & Dee Webb of locally-owned Zach Webb Family Funeral Service of Independence.
