<p>Erma Boston</p> <p>Service for Erma will be Friday, October 15, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Helena First Christian Church.&nbsp; Viewing will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.&nbsp; Burial will follow at Good Hope Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Helena.&nbsp; www.lanmanmemorials.com&nbsp; Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home Inc.</p> <p>Erma Boston entered heaven on October 11, 2021.&nbsp; Her health had been gradually failing since she fell and broke her hip in March.&nbsp; She was born on February 22, 1933 to Arthur and Mildred Murray.&nbsp; She was one of five children.&nbsp; She started school at Great Plains Country School and graduated from Helena High School.&nbsp; She attended business school in Enid after graduation.&nbsp; She began working at the Helena Coop and later transferred to work at the Blackwell Coop.&nbsp; She returned to Helena and began working as a bookkeeper at Dague&rsquo;s Hardware.&nbsp; She met her husband, Sterling &ldquo;Buck&rdquo; Boston, at the hardware store.&nbsp; Buck had brought trustees from OSP to renovate the property for the Helena Boys School.&nbsp; They were married on December 31, 1953.&nbsp; On November 13, 1954, a daughter was delivered to them, Debra Lee Boston.&nbsp; Erma and Buck lived in McAlester, Oklahoma and Bakersfield, California, but eventually established their home in Helena.&nbsp;</p> <p>Around 1961 Erma and her mother, Mildred Murray, purchased the Percolator Caf&eacute; in Helena.&nbsp; Erma and her Mom eventually sold the caf&eacute; around 1971.&nbsp; Erma was later employed at the Helena Boys School as a supervisor in the kitchen.&nbsp; When the Boys School closed, she continued to work as an employee at James Crabtree Correctional Center.&nbsp; She retired from the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.</p> <p>Erma had many hobbies throughout the years that included sewing, painting, knitting, making quilts, and working with ceramics.&nbsp; She took pleasure in making pounds and pounds of candy at Christmas time.&nbsp; She was an excellent cook.&nbsp; In her later years her biggest pleasure was taking her grandchildren and great grandchildren shopping.</p> <p>Erma is preceded in death by her husband, Buck; granddaughter, Natasha Grace Morton; her sister, Eva Mae Hagen; brothers-in-law, Oliver Hagen, Bob Meyer, and Jerry Horn.</p> <p>Erma is survived by her daughter, Debbie Morton; grandson, Lonnie Morton II; great grandchildren, Haylee Lofton and Lonnie Morton III; sisters, Anna Belle Horn, Cathy Meyer; brother, Harold Murray and wife, Joan; numerous nieces and nephews.</p> <p>Memorials may be given to Night to Shine or Greenbrier General Store through the funeral home.</p>

My heart goes out to Deb and family. Erma was a wonderful person. She and Buck were so good to my kids and I and we will be among all those who will miss her.

At the prison, inmates would ask me to talk to Ms. Boston. I told them no, Im afraid of her. But she was really a softie who truly loved her family. She baked the best deserts too. She was a hard worker and very honest woman..but I was actually afraid of her for some time... Continue Reading
