<p>James Albert Finch, 95, died Monday, October 11, 2021.&nbsp; James was born in Nash County to the late Rosa F. and Albert P. Finch on December 26, 1925.&nbsp; In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Evelyn Lee Finch; brothers Clyde and Hilton Finch; sister Nancy Lamm. James is survived by his daughters Sandra Thompson (Keith), Deborah Whitley (Clifton); grandchildren Jamie Thompson, Laura Thompson (Charles Bowden), Jessica Whitley-Brown (Wesley), Brian Whitley (Melanie); great-granddaughter Khloe Whitley, and special friends and neighbors, Roger and Mary Rogers.</p> <p>James was a World War II Army Veteran.&nbsp; He served in the army from 1944 to 1946 and was stationed in France and worked as a telephone repair lineman with the Signal Corp. After serving in France. He headed to the Pacific Theatre. On the way there, the first atomic bomb was dropped on Japan.&nbsp; After four weeks in Manila in the Philippines Islands, he was stationed in Kyoto, Japan where he worked as a switch board operator.&nbsp;&nbsp; He received the World War II Victory Metal, EAme Service Medal with 2 bronze service stars, Good Conduct Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal.</p> <p>James was a retired diesel mechanic with the State of North Carolina.&nbsp; He was a devoted husband, and a loving father, and grandfather. He loved to golf, fish, and spend time at Salty Shores Campground on the NC Coast. He was a member of the American Legion, Masons, a Shriner for 50 Years, and worshipped at Middlesex Baptist Church.&nbsp;</p> <p>Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Middlesex Baptist Church, 11490 Stewart Street. Friends and family will be received at the home, 10014 Nash Street, Middlesex, North Carolina. Visitation will be held 10 am Saturday prior to the service at Middlesex Baptist Church.&nbsp; Entombment will follow at Hollywood Cemetery with Military Honors. He will lie in state on Friday, October 15, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Strickland Funeral Home in Louisburg.</p> <p>Flowers accepted or memorials may be sent to Middlesex Baptist Church, PO Box 369, Middlesex, NC&nbsp; 27557; Shriner&rsquo;s Children Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33607; or a charity of your choice.&nbsp;</p> <p>Arrangements by Strickland Funeral Home &amp; Crematory, Louisburg, North Carolina.</p>
