Eleanor Eckert, age 96, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at her home with her caregivers by her side. Special thanks to her caregivers Marilyn, Rita, Joanna, Connie, Vicky and Amy. Eleanor was born on October 13, 1924 in Cleveland, OH, a daughter of Gaspar and Veronika (Sutlak) Madro. She married Edwin J. Eckert on January 20, 1990 in South Bend, IN. He preceded her in death on June 18, 2010 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by her parents and 6 brothers and sisters. Surviving are several beloved nieces and nephews, Marty (Patty) Madro, Thom Madro, Cindy Madro, Melanie Hedler and Sue Donnelly. Eleanor managed Stauffers Restaurant in Cleveland, OH for 30 years. She volunteered at the Cleveland Clinic for Mental Health and at the gift shop. She was a member of the Peoria Women’s Club, Entre Nous and St. Jude Catholic Church. She was active in the Parish and with the Sisters of St. Jude. A Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 AM on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at St. Jude Catholic Church. Fr. Patrick Henehan will officiate. Burial of Ashes will take place at a later date in Calvary Cemetery in Victor, IA, with her husband, Edwin. There will also be a Mass said in Eleanor’s memory from her friends in Poland. Memorials may be to St. Jude Catholic Church. The family would like everyone to follow COVID protocol by wearing masks.
