Merril William Gerow
<p>Merril W. Gerow, age 90 of Corning, NY passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.</p><p><br></p><p>Born on November 11, 1930 in Wellsboro, PA, he was the son of the late Floyd Gerow and Bathshea Apgar. He married Betty J. Case on August 15, 1950. She predeceased him on November 8, 2014 after 64 years of marriage. He worked as a glass mechanic for Corning, Inc. for 44 years before his retirement.</p><p><br></p><p>Merril's family and friends will remember him most for his kind heart. Anyone who met Merril would comment on what a wonderful man he was. He was a "jack of all trades" and able to fix anything. He could either be found at work or off fixing a car for a friend. He found great joy in riding his Harley - riding for over 40 years and well into his 80's.</p><p><br></p><p>Merril is survived by his children: Merril "Bud" (Tena) Gerow of Fall Branch, TN, Raedine (John F.) Speciale of Corning, NY, Randy (Elizabeth) Gerow of Corning, NY, Joel (Kimberly) Gerow of Painted Post, NY, Melissa (Ken) Putman of Campbell, NY; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; brothers: Arnold Gerow of Wellsboro, PA and Robert (Theresa) Andrews of Elmira, NY; and many nieces and nephews.</p><p><br></p><p>In addition to his parents and wife, Merril was predeceased by his son, Larry Gerow; and several brothers and sisters.</p><p><br></p><p>Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Phillips Funeral Home, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning has been entrusted with the arrangements.</p>Obituary
