Dorothy Barnwell Obituary

On October 10, 2021, Mrs. Dorothy Barnwell passed away at the age of 96 years. A private family service will be held at a later date. Dorothy Evelyn Barnwell was born in Denver, Colorado but lived in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and Wynne, Arkansas for the past several decades. She is remembered by her family and friends as loving, caring and always ready to listen. The two cornerstones of her life were faith and family. Her heart was full with unconditional love for her children and grandchildren. She was always the first person to call when someone needed a prayer warrior. She had a direct connection with her Savior. Anyone that ever met Mrs. Barnwell felt her close connection to the Lord, and her caring and kind spirit. Mrs. Barnwell was a co-director of the Bethesda Home for Girls in Hattiesburg and the co-founder of the Ruth Home for Girls in Rome, Georgia. She devoted many years to taking care of hundreds of girls that needed loving guidance. She remained in contact with many of the girls, even towards the end of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Hubert Barnwell; one infant daughter, Barbara Barnwell; her mother, Mary McGrath Peters; her father, Frank McGrath; one sister, Shirley McGrath; and one brother, Glen McGrath. She is survived by one son, Ronald Barnwell (Barbara); two daughters, Beverly McGraw (Dan) and Jeanne Morrison (William); ten grandchildren, Bonnie Cummings, Ronnie Barnwell, Pam Doherty, Scott McGraw, William Morrison, Leigh LaCroix, John Morrison, Katherine Marengo, Andrew Morrison, and Mary Morrison; 12 great grandchildren, John Cummings, Rachel Kasten, Andrew Walker, Bradford Doherty, Meghan Doherty, Michael LaCroix, Samantha LaCroix, Ethan Marengo, Nicholas Marengo, Gabriel Marengo, Will Morrison, and Sofia Morrison; and three great-great grandchildren, Taylor Cummings, Madison Cummings, and Carter Cummings. She will be remembered and loved by all who knew her.
