Floyd “Ray” Gibbs, age 74 of Marion, NC passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021 at Mission Hospital Asheville - Memorial Campus, due to complications of COVID-19.

Ray was born October 27, 1946 in McDowell County, NC to the late Dock and Pearl Ann Reel Gibbs. He was Chairman of Deacons at Grandview Baptist Church and Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, where he attended faithfully as a member. He worked for Coat’s America where he retired after 35 years of service. In his free time, Ray loved being outdoors, whether it be fishing and camping, riding motorcycles or just enjoying the sunshine; outdoors is where he thrived.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his sister, Ruby Gibbs Byrd and his grandson, Christian Lateef Swepson.

Those left behind to cherish Ray’s memory are his beloved wife of 54 years, Vicki Schism Gibbs; three children, Timothy Gibbs (Michelle) of Marion, Keith Gibbs (Christen) of Swannanoa and Christal Gibbs and her son, Orion Reigh Gibbs of the home; eight additional cherished grandchildren, Amber Branch (Weston), Tara Ashley Elliott, Cody Gibbs, Jessica Gibbs, Keith Gibbs, Jr., Abel Gibbs, Sage, and Paul; three precious great-grandchildren, Noah Elliott and Isaiah & Kilee Branch; two siblings, Robey Gibbs and Ruth Nanney; his sister-in-law, Gaynelle Blanton (Chuck); and his brother-in-law, Jim Schism (Teresa).

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. A funeral service to celebrate Ray’s life will follow at 2:00 pm at the church with Rev. Jimmy Reese and Rev. Tony Lunsford officiating. Interment will follow the service at McDowell Memorial Park.
