Hennessey</p> <p>North Sydney</p> <p>It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Leona Elizabeth Hennessey, age 78, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend on Sunday, October 10, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.</p> <p>Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Emma (Russell) Gouthro.</p> <p>Leona was a very kind and loving woman who cared deeply for her family and people in her community. Ma adopted so many people during her lifetime that were either in crisis or just in need of love and a family. She was well known for preparing large meals for family and friends. She had been an active member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church and most recently, St. Joseph Church in North Sydney.</p> <p>Leona lived for her four children, Karen (Richard) Foss, North Sydney; Kate Hennessey (Kevin Roland), Black Rock; Sheila Hennessey, Westmount; Bobby (Maxine), Sydney Mines; and her eleven grandchildren, Stephanie, Reilly, Sophia, Kelsey, Mitchell, Noah, Emma, Olivia, Joshua, Jessica, Natasha; three great grandchildren, Teddy, Iris, Andre; two sisters, Theresa (Tommy) Gillis, Toronto; Sr. Marcella Gouthro, Halifax; sister-in-law, Evelyn Gouthro, Sydney Mines; brother-in-law, Michael McCormick, Sydney Mines and by several nieces and nephews. </p> <p>She was predeceased by her husband and best friend of 58 years, Kevin Hennessey in March of this year; brother Frank and her twin brother Michael (Bette); sisters Hilda and Jenny.</p> <p>There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Doug MacDonald presiding. Covid-19 protocols regarding wearing of masks and proof of vaccination will be adhered to. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.</p> <p>In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the North Sydney Food Bank.</p>Obituary
