"The road to happiness is not hard to find, it's what we do for others that brings us peace of mind."

Our dad, Marvin Nielson was a prime example of doing for others. He died peacefully on October 6, 2021 in Saint George, Utah at the age of 91.

Marvin was born on May 15, 1930 in Goshen, Idaho to Oliver and Astrid Nielson, the 8th of 10 children and is the last to pass away. He learned how to fix anything growing up on a farm and in later years, served many others with his skills.

He was drafted into the Army and played his trumpet in the Regimental Band.

He married Norma Hanson on April 17, 1953 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were married for 64 years. To this union was born 4 daughters and 1 son. Life was active, filled with work, church assignments, and family time. Our home was one of laughter, games and music.

To help support the growing family and because of his love of music, he formed a dance band, playing for many wedding dances, stake dances, and dance clubs. After retirement, he taught himself to play an electronic keyboard and entertained at assisted living centers for many years.

When he retired from the INEL in Idaho Falls, he and Norma served an LDS mission in California. Warmer weather enticed them to move to southern Utah where he served as Bishop in a senior ward and conducted 45 funerals in three years.

Their home was a welcoming place for all; children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma and survived by 5 children- Diane (Danny). Marian (Rod), Judy (Brad), Bonnie (Kurt) and Roger (Laura); 14 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
