Mary Galatro Donahue Newington, Connecticut Obituary

Mary Galatro Donahue

Mary Galatro Donahue passed peacefully on Saturday October 9, 2021, after a courageous life in which her mental strength eclipsed her physical limitations. Mary graduated from Saint Francis Hospital School of Nursing and began her nursing career in maternity and then dedicated three decades to care of the elderly at Corbin Convalescent then Brittany Farms Health Center in New Britain, Connecticut. There she touched the lives of so many serving as a unit nurse, nursing supervisor, nursing educator, quality control nurse and ultimately Assistant Director of Nursing. Ahead of her time, she promoted a patient centric approach always putting her patients first truly a role model for others to emulate. Mary was a devout Catholic and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and nursing colleague. She leaves behind her husband David Donahue, children John Donahue, Rose Maljanian, Catherine Donahue, Peter Donahue, daughter in law Linda Donahue, son in law John Maljanian Jr. grandchildren Rachel Tucker, William Donahue, Brianna Maljanian, Gavin Donahue, Patrick Donahue and David Maljanian and great grandchildren Landon and Brynn Motta, her nephew Steve Ebinger, niece Mary Ebinger Demchak, husband Bob and grand-nephews Justin and Joseph. Mary was ever present for her devoted husband David’s regular visits and her entire family, especially cherishing every word as she received updates on her grandchildren’s happenings. Mary was blessed to be part of a second family- her McLean family- Terry, Tina, Katie, Keith, Melissa, Holly, Andrea, Marcia, Cathy, Sharon and many others whose expert care and unsurpassed caring meant so much to her and her family. She was predeceased by her parents John and Frances Galatro, brothers Francis Galatro and Nunzio Galatro and sister Meada Galatro Ebinger. Without speaking a word she remained a strong matriarch, a teacher and just a joy to be around. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her memory to McLean Health Care 75 Great Pond Road Simsbury CT 06070. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, October 13th, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington.
