Eleanor Mae Pawelczyk

Eleanor Mae (Watts) Pawelczyk died peacefully in her sleep on October 8, 2021, at the age of 85. She was born on December 23, 1935, in New Britain, Connecticut, to Frederick Northend Watts and Sophie (Makucin). She met her life-long love Henry Joseph Pawelczyk at a Polish Home dance and they were married on September 28, 1957. They had two children, Cheryl Anne McClellan and David Joseph Pawelczyk. Member of Holy Cross Church Mother’s Club and past President of Holy Cross Ladies Guild, she enjoyed organizing fund-raisers for sports teams at Holy Cross School. Eleanor was a graduate of New Britain High School and Annhurst College in Woodstock, Connecticut, she was employed as a medical secretary for many years at New Britain medical practices, New Britain Surgical Group for Dr. Joseph Mlynarski and Grove Hill Clinic with Dr. Robert Dragon. She always enjoyed family gatherings, picnics in the summer and holiday dinners. After retiring, she loved to travel with Henry, taking cruises to Alaska and train rides through the Canadian Rockies. She visited her daughter Cheryl on a tour through Europe during Cheryl’s military service in Germany. She loved travelling to Florida, Rhode Island and Cape Cod with her cousin Geri Quintal and husband Bob. Henry and Bob held the ladies purses while Eleanor and Geri shopped. Eleanor was proud of her Polish heritage through her mother Sophie and grandparents Konstanty and Anna Makucin. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Henry. She is survived by her children, her son-in-law Kenneth McClellan, her granddaughter Meagan Sneeringer and husband Luke, grandson Michael McClellan, her aunt Terry McGuire and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Thanks to the staff at Arbor Rose and Jerome Home in New Britain for their care of Eleanor during her final days. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, October 18th, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Burritt Hill, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, New Britain. She will be laid to rest with her husband in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Memorial donations may be made to the American Legion Department of CT at www.ctlegion.org.
