<p>Gisele Laura Vermette of Dauphin, Manitoba passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021 at the age of 94 years.</p> <p>Gisele Laura Marie Vermette<br /> Passed peacefully of natural causes at 1:50 AM on Friday, October 8, 2021 in Dauphin, Manitoba at the age of 94.<br /> Gisele was born in Pitgam, France on March 5, 1927 to Father Aime Vanlerberghe and Mother Adriene Rossez.<br /> She married Edwin George Vermette on April 20, 1946 in Pitgam France.&nbsp;<br /> Gisele was born in Pitgam in Northern France, close to Belgium border with a Flemish upbringing. She had the quintessential French country upbringing with many cousins and spent time on her grandmother&rsquo;s farm.<br /> Gisele met her husband Edwin during the second World War while his unit was stationed near Pitgam assisting in the liberation of France. They married in Pitgam before she made her way to Canada as a war bride.&nbsp;<br /> They settled in Dauphin, Manitoba where she had children Gregory and Linda. She worked in one of the local bakeries and learned to speak English and adjust to a completely different lifestyle. Her family then moved to Churchill, Manitoba where she worked at the hospital in housekeeping. She also fostered children. She had two more children, John and Darlene.<br /> Gisele once again relocated with her family to Inuvik, NWT where she became Head of Housekeeping at Inuvik General Hospital. She also flew on medical flights to assist people going to and from remote communities.<br /> After retirement she and Ed spent time in Winnipeg managing an apartment building, she also did some work with homecare, before fully retiring to Dauphin. There she enjoyed tending her flowers and garden and traveling with friends to the US. She especially liked going on trips to the casinos in the US and Canada. Her greatest joy was having her grandchildren visit in the summer and as they got older and had children of their own, she enjoyed visits with her great grandchildren.<br /> It was always a joy to listen to her remembrances of her time as a child in France and trips she made with friends and family. She had intriguing stories of life during World War 2 as well as life in Churchill and Inuvik. She loved going through her photo albums with all her visitors and had a memory attached to almost every photograph.&nbsp;<br /> Gisele is survived by her son Gregory Vermette of Winnipeg, son John Vermette of Winnipeg and daughter Darlene Tosczak and son in law Kevin Tosczak of Calgary. Grandchildren Pamela Vermette, Lana Archambault (husband Guy), Sheldon Vermette, Tamara Tosczak (Roy Dillon) and Cole Tosczak. Great Grandchildren Preston Vermette, Aiden and Ava Vermette, Jace and Juliette Archambault and Casey and Laila (Goray) Vermette. As well as her sister-in-law, Laura Vermette (Tony), her brother-in-law, James Vermette and her dear friend David Hanus.<br /> She is predeceased by her husband Ed (December 1989), daughter Linda Vermette (December 2020), and son-in-law Mike Beauchamp (January 2019).&nbsp;<br /> In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gisele&rsquo;s memory to Cancer Care Manitoba.&nbsp;<br /> As special thank you to the staff of St. Paul&rsquo;s Personal Care Home for their kindness and compassion in Gisele&rsquo;s final days.</p> <p>Memorial Service was held on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 11:00 am from Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin, MB with Rev. Michel Nault officiating.&nbsp; Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery in Dauphin, MB.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
