Charles and Helena Catholic Church – 230 E. Vienna St., in Clio. Rev. Fr. Kenneth Coughlin officiating. Cremation will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Montrose HS Broadcasting Department or Whaley’s Children’s Center in Flint. Tom was born November 15, 1957, in Flint, Michigan to Thomas E. and Mary J. (McGovern) Skinner. (Anyone that knew Tom knew that this is also opening day of deer hunting season!) He was a proud graduate of the Class of ‘75 from Clio High School where he excelled in almost all sports. He later earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Western Michigan University in 1985 or sometime around that year as he was a perpetual student and always learning. Tom (Skins) was a Broadcast Journalist, sports historian, teacher, and writer. He was an independent contractor as a Broadcaster and sports writer with the Local Comcast Station, the Michigan High School Athletics Association (MHSAA) and various radio stations in Michigan to name just a few. He was the broadcaster for many schools sporting events as well as several Super Bowls over the years. Tom lived life passionately. He loved the support from the Montrose community and was so proud of his broadcasting students there. He was a very detailed, dramatic, and LONG storyteller as we all know. Tom loved sharing his broadcasting exploits of his time spent at the1984 Summer Olympics in L.A. with his cousin Rooster. He always had a story to tell of his many other escapades in his exceptional life. He was the King of Pun. Tom lived and breathed sports - especially for the University of Michigan and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Tom could recite sports statistics in his sleep and was always up for a sports trivia challenge. He never remembered to take the garbage out, but he could certainly tell you who was last at bat in the 1984 World Series. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and after no longer being able to hunt, he loved taking slow drives at dusk to spot wildlife. Tom had a larger-than-life personality, made friends everywhere he went, and we all know that he never met a stranger! He loved being a special big brother to Tony, and spending time with all his nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Tom will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially those in the sports world. Surviving are: Father, Thomas Skinner; Sisters: Sue Randall, Nancy (Bill) Sather, and Mary Fran Leineke (Brian); Brothers: Joe (Debbie) Skinner, and John Skinner; Nephews and nieces: Jeremy (Jackie) Juhl, Andrew (Ali) Juhl, Laura (Collin) Castle, Caitlin (Mack) Sather, Jennifer (Dan) Deibert, Thomas (Lila) Purdy, and Madison Skinner (Fiancé Evan); Great nieces and nephews: Bella, Harper, Beckham, Cecilia Belle, Aubrey, Kristopher, Kayla, Kayden, and Kaylynn; Best friends: Jamie Kitts, and John Ackerman; Loving dog, Goldie; Many other loving family members and dear friends.
