<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Roy Bienvenue, 73, died&nbsp;Monday morning&nbsp;at home with his family by his side.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Born in Pittsfield, MA, the son of Camille and Yvonne Milotte Bienvenue, he was educated in Lenox Schools and graduated from Lee High School in 1967.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; After graduation, Roy served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam as a combat helicopter pilot with the 1st Air Cavalry, flying both the Huey and Cobra gunships. He survived the Tet Offensive, and over his two tours of duty in Vietnam received numerous medals and commendations for heroism in battle including a Bronze Star, and two Purple Hearts.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Roy returned home to Lee, MA and worked in the local paper mills and eventually retired from Schweitzer - Mauduit Eagle Mill in Lee. He was a communicant of St. Mary&rsquo;s Church in Lee. In his spare time he was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Roy is survived by his wife, the former Mary Wood, whom he married in 2002; three sons: D.C. Bienvenue and his wife Tara of Sarasota, FL, Christian Bienvenue of Reno, NV and Kevin Raftery of Lee, MA; two daughters: Jessica Raftery of Ware, MA and Jennifer Raftery of Lee, MA; two brothers: Pete Bienvenue and his wife Helen of Pittsfield and Camille Bienvenue of Southwick, MA; three sisters: Alice Romeo of Lee, Linda McGuirk and her husband Ron of Windsor, MA and Gail Glass and her husband Bill of The Villages, FL; his beloved grandchildren: Mason, Mary, Wren, Roque, Victoria, Matt and Will; a good friend Larry Crossley and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He is predeceased by two sisters: Eileen Biasin and Beatrice Jacobs; three brothers in law: Les Jacobs, Spike Biasin and Jesse Romeo; and a sister in law Shirley Bienvenue.</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Per Roy&rsquo;s request there will be no funeral services and internment of his ashes will be at a later date. Friends and family may make donations in his memory to Soldiers On in C/O the Kelly Funeral Home &nbsp;&nbsp;3 Main Street &nbsp; Lee, MA 01238.</p>

Obituary

          Roy Bienvenue, 73, died Monday morning at home with his family by his side.

          Born in Pittsfield, MA, the son of Camille and Yvonne Milotte Bienvenue, he was educated in Lenox Schools and graduated from Lee High School in 1967.

          After graduation, Roy served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam as a combat helicopter pilot with the 1st Air Cavalry, flying both the Huey and Cobra gunships.
