Providenza "Florence" Curcuru

Providenza "Florence" Curcuru Providenza "Florence" (Giamanco) Curcuru, 97, of Gloucester, wife of the late Salvatore Curcuru, passed away on Friday evening, April 15, 2016 at the Addison Gilbert Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Gloucester on May 14, 1918, daughter of the late Nicholas and Marietta (Campagna) Giamanco. Florence worked for many years at O'Donnell Usen Fisheries and later at the Captain Lodge. She was a member of the St. Peter's Club, Madonna Del Rosario Society, Mother of Grace Club, the Ladies Guild at St. Ann's Church, where she was very active in all aspects as well as the PTA and the Addison Gilbert Hospital Auxiliary. Florence enjoyed cooking, going to Foxwoods and playing bingo. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by two daughters, Grace Viola, Carole Salles and her husband Daniel all of Gloucester; two sons, Philip Curcuru and his wife Valerie of Avondale, AZ and Gary Curcuru and his partner, Michael Cherrix of Hopewell Junction, NY; fifteen grandchildren, Nicholas Marcantonio and his wife Carol, Julie Marcantonio, Jay Viola, David Viola, Steven Curcuru, Christina Curcuru and her husband Joel, Anthony Curcuru, Carla Kolesar and her husband Matt, Nicholas Curcuru, Lewis Ryan and his wife Pamela, Holly Ryan, Lisa Skigis, Harry Skigis, Amanda Amaral and Amy Mitchell and her husband Noel; fifteen great-grandchildren, Caden Viola, Jaxson Viola, Christopher Ryan, Andrew Amaral, Brandon Amaral, Olivia Amaral, Tristen Mitchell, Cassandra Mitchell, Derek Cotton, Ryan Cotton, Nick Cooper, Hunter Cooper, Kyrie Cooper, Julian Cooper and Abby Kolesar; her daughter-in-law, Donna Curcuru; her sisters-in-law, Phyllis Holmes Curcuru, Anita Curcuru, Grace and her husband Sebastian Nicastro, Rosalie Backus, Mary and her husband Paul Fuhs and Tina Nickerson; brothers-in-law, Anthony and his wife Janice Curcuru, Gerald and his wife Joan Curcuru, Robert and his wife Marcia Curcuru and her good friend, Barbara Jean Amero. She was predeceased by a son, Nicholas Curcuru, who died at sea; her daughter, Marie Marcantonio and her husband Joseph; son-in-law, Joseph Viola; brothers and sisters-in-law, Nicholas Curcuru, John and Phyllis O'Maley Curcuru, Liborio Curcuru, Joseph and Josephine Curcuru, Philip and Catherine Curcuru and Felicia Lowe. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Ann's Church, Holy Family Parish on Monday (Today), April 18th at 9:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. A visitation will be held prior to the Mass on Monday in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. The burial will be held on Wednesday, April 20th at 12 noon in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to St. Ann's Church, Holy Family Parish, 60 Prospect Street, Gloucester, MA 01930.
