Johnny Gale Knight Obituary

Johnny Gale Knight, 74, of Hamburg, died Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at his residence.  Mr. Knight was a native and lifelong resident of the Milo Community outside of Hamburg.  After he graduated from Hamburg High School in 1965, he entered the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam Era. Mr. Knight was a construction worker and a Construction Superintendent for Pioneer Civil Construction for over 25 years, having retired in 2020. He was a member of the Egypt Missionary Baptist Church, an avid outdoorsman and he especially enjoyed fishing.  The love he had for the Mississippi River led him and his wife to stay at their camp on Lake Chicot from the time it was warm enough to fish until the weather changed and it was too cold.

He is preceded in death by his father, John McCoy Knight in 1997, a daughter-in-law, Sheena Knight in 2020; a niece, Tara Harder Smith and a great-niece, Moreland Wesson Mills both in 2019.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia Ann Knight; two sons, Chris Knight and wife, Lelia, and Shelby Knight; his mother, Rudolph Knight all of Hamburg; two sisters, Charlotte Thompson and husband, Barry, and Doris Harder all of Crossett; a brother, Kenneth Knight and wife, Linda, of Hamburg; six grandchildren including a special grandson, Michael Knight and wife, Kristina, and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to say a special thank you to their niece, Jeanna Knight Lineberger, for her help in caring for her “Unc”, the Hospice Home Care Team in Monticello, especially his nurse, Katrina Lucas, for the compassion and care they have shown.

Funeral services are 10 a.m., Saturday, October 9, 2021, at the Egypt Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Buddy Boykin officiating.  Burial will be in the Egypt Cemetery. Pallbearers are Hardy Sawyer, Paul Sawyer, Kevin Dale Chavis, Timothy Chavis, Jimmy Don Norrell and Dewayne Bussell. Honorary pallbearers are George Wise, Roger Chavis, Billy “Wild Bill” Morton, Downey Robinson, Carlton Maxwell and Danny Amos.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
