January 13, 1968 - September 30, 2021 James Cuming passed away on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at the age of 53 years. Jamie was born in Calgary and spent the majority of his childhood in Carstairs. Always very active in sports, he played ball, hockey, and golf. He moved to Red Deer to play hockey at the age of 15. Hockey and sports became a lifelong passion. He took up golf and was an active member of serval courses both here and in the US. Jamie was a member of the Carstairs Elks Lodge # 556 for over 30 years. Jamie obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Calgary, and his law degree from the University of Alberta. He was a founding partner in the Calgary law firm, Cuming and Gillespie. Throughout his career, Jamie helped hundreds, if not thousands, of injured clients. Jamie was a mentor and leader to young lawyers at the firm and throughout the industry. He received countless awards for his passion, skill, and expertise including being recognized as a Leading Practitioner in Alberta in the area of personal injury. Jamie received the Presidents Award from the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association for distinguished contributions to the profession, community, and the advancement of law. Most recently Jamie was voted by his peers as a lawyer of the year for Calgary. Jamie was a driven man who worked exceptionally hard and played with the same enthusiasm. He loved life and cherished helping people throughout his journey. James leaves his daughter Brooke, parents MaryLou and David; his grandparents Bob and Carollyn Collier; his partner Mandi Jackson, as well as a long list of aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many friends and business acquaintances.
