Jonna Lissie Martin

Jonna Lissie (Pilegaard) Martin died on Thursday, November 12, 2015. She was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on November 1, 1933 to the late Ernst Willie Kristian and Edith Marie (nee Gronning Jensen) Pilegaard. Jonna emigrated from Denmark to the United States and became a naturalized US citizen on June 22, 1967. On Halloween 1979 she married CWO Matthew “Skipper” Martin, USCG, and together they lived in Connecticut, Virginia and Key West, Florida before settling in Mobile, Alabama. Jonna enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Guests were sure to be well fed when visiting with her and Skip. She loved animals, and she and Skip especially enjoyed feeding the neighborhood critters such as cats and raccoons. She and Skip shared their home with many pets over the years including Olsen, Sophie, Plet, Blondie, and Rudy to name a few. Jonna was preceded in death by her husband Skip in April 2015. She is survived by her two sons, John Rosenbæk and his wife Ilse and Jørgen Jørgensen; her grandchildren, Eva Rosenbæk-Svane and her husband Torben and their children Alexander and Lea, Martin Rosenbæk and his partner Nanna Kirkegaard and their son August, and Tine Rosenbæk-Jørgensen and her partner Kenneth Lindholm Hartig and her children Emil and Nickolaj; her sister and brother-in-law, Lis and Kristian Andersen; her sister and brother-in-law, Winnie and Anker Warncke; her brother, Ove Pilegaard; her sister, Ina Pilegaard; her mother-in-law, Shirley Welch; her father-in-law, Richard Martin and his wife Beverly; her brother-in-law Richard Martin and his wife Marlies; her brother-in-law, Michael Martin; and her brother-in-law, Mark “Sam” Welch and his wife Jan; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family. There will be no public funeral services. A private service for family will be held at a later date. The family would especially like to thank her caregivers from Touching Hearts in Mobile, Alabama, Peregrine’s Landing at Emory Heights and Bridgeway Hospice in Decatur, Georgia; and Ron Baker for all the help they have provided.
