<p>The Rosary for Leonard Martinez, 50, of Portales will be recited at 9:00 AM, Tues., Oct. 12, 2021 at St. Helen Catholic Church, followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 AM with Fr. Ron Schultz officiating. &nbsp;Interment of his ashes will be in the Portales Cemetery.&nbsp; Joel Martinez, Manuel Terry, Abel Baca, Kurtis Kemp, Martin Terrazas, Devon Martinez, Dezy Neely, Joe Sanchez, Adrian Martinez, Cruz Villegas and James Truelove will serve as honorary pallbearers.</p> <p>Leonard Ray Martinez was born June 25, 1971, in Portales to the home of Sandra Lee (Chancellor) and Pete Toby Martinez and died in Lubbock, TX on the evening of Oct. 4, 2021.&nbsp; Leonard lived his lifetime in Portales.&nbsp; He enjoyed helping people, both young and elderly.&nbsp; During his time of working at Community Services he took many elderly people to doctor's appointments, and always looked after them to make sure they didn't fall.&nbsp; He also worked at ENMU as a caterer and a groundskeeper.&nbsp; He loved people and was always wanting to make them laugh and be happy.</p> <p>Leonard enjoyed growing flowers and doing landscaping and lawn care.&nbsp; He was a devoted fan of the 49'ers football team, and the Lakers basketball team.&nbsp; Traveling was another of his loves, and he especially liked to go to Santa Fe, NM and to the west coast of California.</p> <p>He is survived by his daughter, Esperanza Martinez of Portales; his mother, and father, Sandra and Pete Martinez of Portales; a brother and sister-in-law, Joel and Amanda Martinez of Portales and a sister, Maria Truelove and her companion Michael Johnson of Portales; and his aunts and uncles, Joan Martinez-Terry of Portales, Mike and Sharon Pitocco of San Luis Obispo, CA and Harold "Tommy" Chancellor and wife Sandy of Grants Pass, OR. also several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and a great nephew. &nbsp; He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Santos Martinez-Villegas and his grandparents, Rita &amp; Modesto Martinez, Wanda Richardson and William Chancellor.</p>
